A Perfect Day in Downtown Comox: Shopping, Scenic Views & Coastal Cuisine
Exploring the Town of Comox offers a variety of activities for the whole family.
With its stunning mix of independent boutiques, vibrant eateries, and panoramic ocean-to-mountain views, the Town of Comox is a dream destination for a day trip. Nestled along the water, the downtown core is incredibly walkable, making it easy to hop between local shops, seaside parks, and cozy cafes.
Whether you are a local rediscovering your backyard or a visitor experiencing the valley for the first time, here is your curated, one-day itinerary to experience the very best of Downtown Comox.
Morning: Fresh Brews & Ocean Air
Your day begins with the warm aroma of scratch-made pastries and freshly roasted coffee.
Church Street Woodfired Bakery: Stop here first to pick up a sweet treat or a loaf of artisanal, wood-fired bread.
The Mill Coffee: Head just around the corner on Comox Avenue for a fresh brew, chai, or matcha.
Take your treats to go and take a quick five-minute drive to Goose Spit Park. It’s the perfect place to start your day in the fresh coastal air. Take in the sweeping views of the open ocean stretching toward the mainland's Coast Mountain Range on one side, and Vancouver Island's Beaufort Range on the other. Keep an eye out for marine life, from oystercatchers to passing whales. If you’re looking to get your blood moving, take a brisk walk along the beach or challenge yourself to the famous Nob Hill Staircase for an even higher vantage point of the scenery.
Having worked up an appetite, head back toward town for a sit-down brunch at Tidal Cafe (open Thursday–Monday), known for its welcoming atmosphere and hearty, locally sourced breakfast dishes.
Afternoon: Boutique Shopping & Local Culture
Next, explore Comox’s many independent stores, almost all of which can be found during a relaxing wander along Comox Avenue. For a carefully curated selection of jewellery, the sweetest children’s toys, and home goods like throws, room sprays, candles, hand-tied bouquets, and even jigsaw puzzles, stop at Wildflower Mercantile. Upstairs from The Mill, Shoppe Kindred stocks an equally beautiful array of kitchen, dining, and home decor, textiles, and a “Little Kindred” collection of children’s clothes. For your consignment fix, visit Sweet Salvage, which stocks home goods and clothing, including vintage and reworked pieces. Just down the street, Coast Surf Shop stocks activewear, outdoor brands and accessories, and a selection of paddleboards. Several other clothing, gift, art supply, and book stores await the curious shopper, for a list of downtown Comox businesses click here.
After browsing the shops, enjoy a perfect blend of history and nature by walking over to the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park. Meander around the beautifully manicured nine-acre waterfront property, taking in the rare tree varieties, seasonal blooms, and the historic Arts and Crafts-style 1930s residence.
Evening: Harbour Views & Coastal Dining
Before sitting down for dinner, make a final afternoon stop at Marina Park and the Fisherman's Wharf Boardwalk. It’s the ultimate place to appreciate the sights of Comox Harbour, watch the boats glide in, or grab a quick bite from Surfside Fish & Chips right by the water.
As the sun begins to set, end your day by diving into Comox's incredible restaurant and pub scene:
For Seafood & Fine Wine: Cozy up at Gigi's Oysters for fresh, local catches and BC wines.
For Casual & Craft: Grab a mouthwatering pizza at Boonie's Pizza, or head to the Church St Taphouse and RAD Brewing Company for a vibrant atmosphere and locally crafted brews.
For Sunset Views: The Blackfin Pub offers elevated pub-style fare with a legendary wrap-around patio overlooking the water, making it the premier spot to watch the sun sink behind the mountains.
From morning coffee to evening coastal views, Downtown Comox offers a perfect, laid-back coastal escape.
