Two Day 'Best of Comox' Itinerary
Two Day 'Best of Comox' Itinerary
Comox is all about the water and experiencing it can be done in many ways. Here’s the best way to wring out two days of fun.
From kayaking, SUP, or sailing in Comox Harbour, to beach walks and straight-up chilling at the sandy strip dubbed ‘Little Mexico’, the ocean is always nearby on the Comox peninsula. Here are a few ways to take full advantage of two days in oceanside Comox.
One thing that is guaranteed to make us throw off the covers and jump out of bed is a good breakfast spot! Start your day at Tidal Café, where you can enjoy thoughtfully sourced and deliciously prepared meals like their popular eggs benny interpretations, breakfast bowls and house-made cocktails. Rent a SUP (stand up paddleboard) or kayak and head out to Little Mexico, a strip of white sandy beach located only a short paddle away on Goose Spit. It’s a good place to find the sun, even in autumn. Rentals are available at Compass Adventure or Coast Surf Shop, where the clothing shopping is also excellent.
For lunch, warm up with the soup of the day and a savoury crêpe at Benino Italian Café & Gelato, grab a wood-fired pizza by the slice at Church Street Bakery or opt for Church St. Taphouse, where you can discover a new craft beer from their rotating tap list, paired with a west coast inspired dish. If you are a fan of a well-crafted coffee, be sure to visit Milano in Comox for artisanal goodness in a cup, or Komox Grind for their seasonal takes on caffeine classics. If sweet treats are more your thing, head to OMG Macarons for their locally hand-crafted macarons, you can also pick from their assortment of other whimsical pastries.
It’s time to shop, right? Island Affair Giftware has great local art, souvenirs, and clothing. The Cottage & The Cabin offer beautiful clothing for both women and men in their Comox location and nearby downtown Courtenay. If you have kids that need to burn off energy, take them to the nautical-themed playground at Comox Marina Park; it’s fun for both the older and the wee ones.
Tuck in for the night in your private villa along the fairway at the award-winning Crown Isle Resort & Golf. The resort hotel has 90 villa suites with spectacular views of the first fairway and the coastal mountain range.
Wake refreshed and ready to tackle the day with a little bit of, well, tackle. Book a morning fishing charter with one of the many knowledgeable operators in the valley. You will be guided along the coastal waters in search of the local salmon, prawns and crabs! One of the most rewarding parts of fishing—besides fresh fish—is getting a new perspective of the Comox Peninsula, with views of Hornby Island, Denman Island, Mount Washington and the Comox Glacier. If you’re lucky, there may even be a few whales along the way. There’s nothing quite like a quiet, contemplative day on the water to help you connect with the surroundings.
You’ll be famished coming off the water so fuel up on Boonies Pizza or visit Sushi Kobo for authentic Japanese dishes. If you can still move after that meal, walk around Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park, the nine landscaped acres is the perfect forested and waterfront setting for an autumn stroll. Beautiful old buildings, art exhibits, concerts, and plays are all attractions at this stunning location. Upon returning to Comox’s charming downtown, do some shopping in the many bookstores and small shops; we suggest checking out Blue Heron Books, Sea Breeze Boutique, and Jules by the Bay Fine Jewellery. Treat your senses to a gelato experience like no other at Benino Italian Café & Gelato, there are over 50 flavours! Make sure to leave room for dinner at the waterfront Blackfin Pub, or the very, very delectable Martine’s Bistro. Take your time and watch the sun set behind the Beaufort Range. When done, take an evening walk along scenic Comox Harbour.
Congratulations, you did Comox correctly.
