By Ferry

Regular ferry service links the British Columbia Mainland and Washington State to the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Riding a ferry provides an opportunity to stretch your legs, enjoy a meal, browse the gift shop and observe marine traffic and wildlife. It is a mini-cruise in the middle of your vacation.

BC Ferry terminals on Vancouver Island are located in Victoria (Swartz Bay) and Nanaimo (Departure Bay or Duke Point) with ferry service to/from the Vancouver area, Comox with ferry service to/from Powell River on the Sunshine Coast, and Port Hardy with service from Prince Rupert via the Inside Passage (www.bcferries.com).

By Land

Once you’re on Vancouver Island, the Comox Valley is only a 1 1/4 hour (117 km) drive north from Nanaimo or a 2 1/2 hour (227 km) drive from Victoria. Travelling the scenic oceanside route of Highway 19A, you’ll pass the Buckley Bay ferry terminal for sailings to Denman Island and Hornby Island, and travel through the seaside communities of Fanny Bay, Union Bay, and Royston as you approach Courtenay, the largest urban centre in the Comox Valley.

Or, once you’re north of Nanaimo you can also follow Highway 19 and take Exit 117 onto the Comox Valley Parkway. Take the first right onto Minto Road, then turn right onto Small Road to find the Vancouver Island Visitor Centre. Our trained staff at the Visitor’s Desk can book your accommodation in many Comox Valley hotels, motels, and hostels and help with directions to Comox Valley campgrounds and RV Parks. You can also learn more about tours and attractions in the Comox Valley, and the special vacation packages available at local resorts and spas.

Coming from the North Island? The Comox Valley is only a 3 1/2 hour (280 km) drive from Port Hardy. Highway 19 Exit numbers 87, 101, 117, 127, 130 and 144 will lead you to various points in the Comox Valley.

By Boat

Those travelling to the Comox Valley by boat will find a full range of facilities including moorage, showers, restaurants and shops adjacent to the Comox Marina. Contact the Comox Valley Harbour Authority at 250-339-6041 for more information.

By Bus/Taxi

Throughout the Comox Valley and surrounding areas, local bus and 24 hour taxi services are provided. Airport shuttle, limousine services and other private bus and transportation service options are also available.
