A Bob Dylan Tribute - Fundraising Concert
This fundraising performance is all about Bob Dylan, including songs, spoken word, and commentary about the life of this amazing musician.
This event has finished.
The Complete Unknowns, who are really not that unknown, hail from Parksville and will deliver a performance focused on the life and music of Bob Dylan.
The musicians include: Mark Wonneck (The Douglas Brothers) Guitar/Vocal; Tom Neville (The Paperboys, Fear of Drinking, Joelle Rabu) Guitar, bass, Fiddle, Mandolin/Vocal; Mick Sherlock (In Spite of Ourselves, Still Crazy, The Taj Mahal/Ry Cooder Tribute, Cosmic American Music) Harmonica / Vocals / Readings.
Mick Sherlock says, "The show is not just a concert, but an attempt to engage the audience in the life of Dylan during his different stages of development."
In addition to performances of many of Dylan's better known songs and a few deep dives into his catalog, the trio of musicians will also incorporate spoken word and poetic prose, from his early days through to present day.
Sherlock adds, "I should mention that this is a tribute to and celebration of, not an impersonation of Dylan. We are not trying to sound like Dylan."
A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales for this concert will be donated to the Comox Valley Child Development Association, the charity of choice by the musicians. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. They can be purchased on Eventbrite or at Laughing Oyster Bookstore in Courtenay.
This concert is one in a series-- Concerts for the Common Good-- created and hosted by St. George's United Church to benefit community non-profits.
The Reverend Ryan Slifka says, “We are excited to once again have such talented musicians step up to be part of our fundraising concert series, which we started in 2023 to help St. George’s support community non-profits in a bigger way than we could with congregant donations alone.” Through concerts like these and other fundraising events, St. George's United Church has donated more than $60,000 to area non-profits since 2023.
Located in the heart of downtown Courtenay at 505 6th Street, St. George’s United Church is a spiritually vibrant, inclusive, justice-seeking community of faith that has been changing lives in the Comox Valley for over a century. Its vision is to be a Christian Church that is a beacon of God’s love and hope in the community, doing so through unconditional welcome, spiritual transformation, and reaching out in love for the common good.
