Fishing
Warm sun filtering through the leaves, water gently flowing past your hip waders, nothing but you and nature in all its quiet glory, when suddenly there is a tug on your line and it’s now just you and the rainbow trout on the end of your fly rod. Fish the exciting rivers in the Comox Valley and bask in nature’s glory and solitude.
All fishing in BC requires a freshwater or saltwater (aka tidal water) fishing licence. You can learn more about freshwater licences here, and tidal water licences here.
The Comox Valley is a perfect gateway to the Salish Sea and Baynes Sound, both great locations for fantastic fishing for salmon, cod and even prawns. Meanwhile, the Puntledge River and Comox Lake are the go-to options for freshwater fishing.
Fishing in the Comox Valley can be enjoyed in a few different ways but a chartered boat with a professional guide or fly fishing and beach casting are the most popular options. You can saltwater fish all year-round, though the types of fish available will vary depending on the season. Booking an experience with a local guide is the absolute best way to maximize your time spent on the water while learning about the region from experienced local fishermen.
All fishing requires a provincial and/or federal fishing licence, depending on whether you plan to fish in freshwater (lakes and rivers), salt water (the ocean), or both. These licences can be purchased online or in person from a licensed vendor.
